Glassmaking operations rely on efficient use of combustion and heat transfer. Bricmont
is dedicated to efficient use of combustion and heat transfer, hence we have developed
a natural partnership with the glass industry.
Bricmont has been called on to provide support on projects from the theoretical
to the practical. On the theoretical side of the spectrum, we have performed a study
of novel “next generation” melter designs. The study started with a general investigation
of the requirements to melt glass, which are bath uniformity and seed abatement.
From there it moved to brainstorming of more than twenty unique concepts for the
“next generation” glass melters. These concepts were evaluated using computational
fluid dynamics (CFD) and the most promising were put forth to the client for his
further development.
On the practical end of the scale, Bricmont has provided multi-disciplinary engineering
for the re-vamp of a float glass plant. Our engineering scope started at the melter, proceeded through the float tank, and ended at the slitters and stackers
